Reading, PA has made their mark on the Realtor.com® 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list, drawing national attention for their combination of affordability and quick-moving homes.
Each year, the rankings highlight the ZIPs where listings are attracting above-average buyer interest and selling at a faster clip than the rest of the country.
In 2025, Reading (ZIP 19607) landed in the top 50, underscoring its growing role as a value-driven option for buyers in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Reading buyers are acting fast
Reading ranked No. 31 nationally, with homes selling in a median of just 27 days between January and June 2025. That’s nearly a month faster than the U.S. average of 53 days. The typical listing price in Reading was $293,000, placing it among the more affordable ZIPs on this year’s list. Buyers can explore how far their money goes with a home affordability tool.
Pennsylvania was well represented in the rankings. Palmyra, PA real estate (ZIP 17078) came in just ahead at No. 27 with a $371,000 median and 27 days on market, while Lancaster, PA homes (ZIP 17601) reached No. 25 with a $512,000 median and homes moving in 31 days.
Taken together, these communities illustrate how Pennsylvania is giving home shoppers multiple options—Lancaster drawing those who want charm and proximity to job hubs, Palmyra offering suburban affordability near Harrisburg, and Reading standing out for its budget-friendly price points
Northeast markets are leading the way
Reading’s strong performance reflects a broader regional trend. The Realtor.com housing data shows the Northeast and Midwest continue to dominate the hottest ZIPs list, while the South and West remain largely absent for the third year in a row.
In the Northeast, ZIPs like Beverly, MA—the nation’s hottest this year—demonstrate how buyers are seeking relative value compared to nearby metro areas. Beverly’s $746,000 median price is steep, but still nearly 16% below Boston’s average. Reading, by contrast, offers an entry point for buyers at less than half that price, making it a compelling option for households looking to stretch their budgets without giving up urban access.
The national story: suburban access, lasting value
According to Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale, the hottest ZIPs in 2025 reflect “a sweet spot” where buyers can find suburban-style amenities, more space, and proximity to jobs—without paying the premiums of big-city centers.
Nationally, homes in the top ZIPs received 3.6× more views than the U.S. average and sold 30–42 days faster. Inventory in these areas remains tight, averaging nearly 59% below pre-pandemic levels, which continues to drive competition and quick decision-making among buyers. Many are turning to a mortgage planning tool to prepare for bidding in these fast-moving markets.
Why Reading stands out
With a sub-$300K median home price and homes moving nearly twice as fast as the national average, Reading offers a combination of affordability and urgency that today’s buyers are seeking. Its place alongside Palmyra and Lancaster shows how Pennsylvania markets are increasingly balancing suburban living, regional job access, and attainable pricing.
For 2025, Reading’s affordability and speed place it firmly on the national stage—proof that value-driven communities remain at the forefront of buyer demand.
