Racine, WI has secured a place among the nation’s most in-demand housing markets, appearing on the Realtor.com®’s 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list.
Each year, the rankings spotlight ZIPs where homes are drawing exceptional buyer interest and selling quickly, even in the face of affordability challenges and high mortgage rates.
In 2025, Racine (ZIP 53402) stood out for combining affordability, quick sales, and Lake Michigan proximity that appeals to today’s buyers.
Homes are selling quickly in Racine
Racine ranked No. 30 nationwide, with homes selling in a median of just 29 days between January and June 2025. That’s nearly a month faster than the U.S. average of 53 days. Its median listing price of $329,000 makes Racine one of the more affordable ZIPs on the list—well below the national June median of $441,000.
Wisconsin had a particularly strong showing in the 2025 rankings. Waukesha, WI (ZIP 53186) landed at No. 14 with homes selling in just 28 days at a $341,000 median price, while Sheboygan, WI (ZIP 53083) placed at No. 32, with a similar $326,000 price point and 32-day sales pace. Together, Racine, Waukesha, and Sheboygan underscore how demand in Wisconsin is spread across lakefront communities, suburban corridors, and historic small cities.
Midwest markets remain highly competitive
Racine’s fast-moving inventory reflects a broader Midwest trend. Realtor.com housing data shows the Midwest continues to dominate, with multiple ZIPs in the top 50, including Ballwin, MO; Strongsville, OH; and Bexley, OH. Several Midwestern ZIPs even cracked the top 10 nationally, showing the strength of market demand across the region.
What unites these markets is a blend of affordability and lifestyle. With Ballwin’s $350,000 median and Strongsville’s $423,000 median, the Midwest offers attainable prices relative to national and coastal norms. Racine’s $329,000 median and quick turnover fit squarely into this affordability-meets-livability narrative.
National context: suburban living with urban access
Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale notes that 2025’s hottest zip codes are defined by their “sweet spot” appeal—suburban-style living with ties to major metros. Buyers are balancing affordability with access, choosing areas that deliver space, lifestyle, and relative value without the steep premiums of city-center living.
Nationally, homes in the top ZIPs sold 30–42 days faster than the U.S. average and drew 3.6× more views per listing. Inventory in these areas remains tight, with active listings nearly 59% below pre-pandemic levels. This scarcity is fueling competition, compressing timelines, and keeping prices firm. Many buyers are using a mortgage planning tool to prepare for multiple-offer situations in fast-moving markets like Racine.
Racine’s advantage
Racine’s combination of affordability, Lake Michigan shoreline, and quick-moving homes makes it a natural contender on the 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list. Unlike pricier metros, Racine offers buyers the chance to live near water and within reach of both Milwaukee, WI real estate and Chicago, IL homes for sale—without stretching budgets to the breaking point.
Together with fellow Wisconsin standouts Waukesha and Sheboygan, Racine highlights how the state is increasingly competitive in the national housing conversation. In today’s high-rate environment, Racine’s balance of value, location, and lifestyle puts it firmly on the radar of buyers in 2025.
