EXCLUSIVE: Emma Stone Finds a Buyer for Newly Renovated Austin Estate—3 Months After Listing It for $23.5 Million

Actress Emma Stone has managed to find a buyer for her newly renovated Austin mansion, just three months after she listed it for $23.5 million.

The “La La Land” starlet and her husband, Dave McCary, originally purchased the “landmark” dwelling in an off-market deal in 2021, with reports at the time suggesting that the duo were planning to relocate their family to Austin full-time and use the property as their primary residence.

Because Texas is a non-disclosure state and the deal was carried out privately, the exact amount that the couple paid for the home has never been revealed.

Stone, 36, and McCary, 40, who wed in 2020, embarked on an extensive renovation of the dwelling soon after buying it—with plans indicating that the seven-bedroom abode, which dates back to the 1940s, was going to be carefully restored, while also being outfitted with a swath of modern amenities.

Yet after three years of work on the home, the couple U-turned on their plans to move to Texas—with listing agent Eric Moreland revealing to the Wall Street Journal that they decided it made more sense to continue living in New York, for now, because their work requires them to be in the city so regularly.

Moreland noted, however, that the couple do still have plans to live in Austin at some point in the future.

Initially, it was reported that Stone and McCary had intended to offer up the property for $26.5 million; however, the pocket listing was later shared with an asking price of $23.5 million.

That same listing now indicates that the home is in contract, suggesting that the couple has accepted an offer, although it’s unclear what price they have agreed upon with their potential buyer.

Although the dwelling was not listed with the MLS, Realtor.com® data suggests that it is one of Austin’s most expensive homes; the most expensive property in the city that is publicly listed is currently on the market for $19.5 million, while another is asking $19 million.

However, Moreland’s listing description noted that the expansive estate, which sits on 1.24 acres, is one of the “finest residences” that Austin has to offer, calling attention to its perfect blend of historical charm and modern luxury.

“Extraordinary, newly restored estate in Austin’s most desirable neighborhood,” the description states. “Located in Tarrytown, one of the oldest enclaves in the city, this compound is surrounded by some of the city’s finest residences on an oak-shaded street.”

“Designed by award-winning architecture firm Cuppett Kilpatrick—known for its appreciation for classical and heritage elements—the home’s design reflects the gracious nature of the surrounding community while offering everything a modern homeowner could ask for.”

The property includes both a five-bedroom main house and a two-bedroom guesthouse, as well as several very expansive living spaces, all of which have been impeccably renovated.

Initial plans for the abode seen by Realtor.com reveal its impressive layout, which includes a screened porch, a solarium, an outdoor kitchen, an office, a dining room, and a huge kitchen, complete with a breakfast bar for casual dining.

“The interior is thoughtfully designed by the architects and expertly crafted by Koch Construction to reflect a respect for tradition, with exquisite millwork and luxurious details not often seen in today’s modern homes,” the listing continues.  

“Herringbone oak and brick floors, creamy marble on fireplace surrounds and counters, and intricate leaded-glass windows are viewed through arched doorways to lend every space a sense of grace and elegance.

When it was originally listed, construction on the home had yet to be completed; however, Moreland noted to the Wall Street Journal that work was due to be finished before the end of summer—just in time for a new buyer to move into a freshly renovated space.

Meanwhile, Stone and McCary are understood to be primarily residing in a New York City apartment that is understood to be worth around $12 million.

Over the years, the actress has created something of a reputation for herself as a seasoned home flipper, routinely selling properties for far more than she purchased them.

In 2024, she offloaded a picturesque compound in Los Angeles for more than $300,000 over her $3.99 million asking price, securing a buyer for the property just a few weeks after she listed it.

The actress had originally paid $2.3 million for the dwelling five years earlier, netting her quite the pretty profit on the sale.

That sale followed another very successful West Coast real estate deal that the actress secured for a midcentury modern abode in Malibu, which she listed for sale for $4.3 million—only to nab a buyer who purchased the property for more than $4.4 million.

However, Stone has had less luck in the Big Apple, where she took a loss on a West Village condo back in 2021.

The actress purchased the one-bedroom condo in 2016, paying $2.4 million. Two years later, the stylish space came on the market for $2.65 million, and then in 2019, its price was dropped to $2.49 million.

She eventually sold the space for $2.25 million in December 2021.
