Ellen DeGeneres Enjoys Day Out in London With Wife Portia de Rossi—as TV Host Is Hit With More Bullying Claims

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, took some time away from their sprawling countryside mansion to enjoy a day out in London—just hours after the TV host was hit with yet more bullying allegations by a former guest who appeared on her hit show.

DeGeneres, 67, who relocated to the U.K. at the end of 2024 in the wake of President Donald Trump‘s election win, was seen strolling around the British capital holding hands with de Rossi, 52, on July 29, looking every inch the couple in love, according to People.

Indeed, the duo seemed to pay no mind to the reports that surfaced on the same day about a podcast interview in which comedian Adam Carolla spoke out about his experiences appearing on “The Ellen Show,” in which he alleged that he encountered “scared” staff, one of whom he said branded the TV host “the worst person” they’d ever met.

Carolla, 61, who appeared on “The Ellen Show” in 2012, went on to recall a conversation he had with a producer on the show about the topics that he was banned from discussing with DeGeneres, who was a vegan at the time of the shoot.

“I was just sitting in the my dressing room and their like segment producer came in, and he went, ‘All right, so we went over the stuff we’re going to talk about,’ you know, Christmas vacation or whatever it was,” Carolla recalled while appearing on “After Party with Emily Dashinsky.”

“And I go, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ And he goes, ‘You’re not going to talk about meat or beef or anything like that, right?’ And I go, ‘No, I’m not, I’m just going to talk about the stuff we talked about … going on vacation at Christmas, or the kids, or, you know, their anecdotes.”

But while Carolla says he confirmed that he knew the topics that were off-limits for DeGeneres, who is since said to have abandoned her vegan lifestyle, he said the same producer came back just 20 minutes later to once again insist he not mention “beef or meat.”

“I was like, ‘Oh, this guy’s scared to death,'” Carolla claimed.

According to the on-air guest, he later had another conversation with another of DeGeneres’ employees, who branded their boss “the worst person” they had ever met.

“Later on, I talked to someone who signed an NDA, so I won’t say his name, but he wrote for Ellen,” Carolla revealed. “I just went, ‘How’s Ellen?’ And he said: ‘Worst person, worst person. Not the worst person I’ve worked for, the worst person I’ve ever met.'”

Carolla’s claims come three years after DeGeneres’ longtime show was yanked off the air amid a flurry of bullying and toxic workplace allegations, which began in 2020, when comedian Kevin T. Porter started a viral thread on X—then known as Twitter—asking people to share their experiences with her.

In his post, Porter noted that he had heard DeGeneres was “notoriously one of the meanest people alive,” prompting an outpouring of responses from other users who claimed to have had unpleasant encounters with DeGeneres.

A few months later, multiple former staffers spoke to Buzzfeed to air their own allegations against DeGeneres, with several accusing her of cultivating a “toxic work environment” behind the scenes.

The TV host ultimately apologized to her staff in a letter in which she vowed that things were going to “change,” but the show struggled to escape the dark cloud of controversy that hung over it and in 2021, DeGeneres announced that she was walking away from the project for good, with her final episode airing in May 2022.

For a while, it appeared that the comedian was going to invest her time fully in her real estate side hustle, which has been a passion project for her for many years now—but at the end of 2024 it was revealed that she and de Rossi were set to pursue a very different challenge: embarking on a new life overseas.

The duo made a move from Montecito, CA, to the British countryside in November 2024, when they took up residence in a stunning farmhouse that they had purchased for $20 million just a few months prior.

While they initially remained tight-lipped about their move, DeGeneres finally addressed the reasons for it during an appearance at an event earlier this month, when she confirmed for the first time that their relocation had been prompted by Trump’s reelection.

Speaking to British broadcaster Richard Bacon, DeGeneres admitted that she and de Rossi had only initially intended to use their countryside abode as a part-time property—until they learned that Trump had claimed victory over Kamala Harris.

“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,'” she explained. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”

Speaking to Bacon, DeGeneres further elaborated on their day-to-day life in the U.K., gushing about how much “better” everything is in their new home country.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” the star said, adding they are “just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming, and it’s just a simpler way of life.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi are so enamored with their new home country that they have already begun amassing an impressive real estate collection there, purchasing two different properties within a year.

The first, a historic farmhouse they originally planned to use as their full-time home, was snapped up by the couple for $20 million in June 2024, while the second—a much more modern property—is understood to have been purchased earlier this year for an undisclosed amount.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, DeGeneres explained that she and her spouse made the decision to purchase a second home because it offered more space for de Rossi’s horses, which the couple had flown over to the U.K. after deciding to make the country their full-time home.

“When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses,” she said. “We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them.”

They have since decided to part ways with their first property, putting it on the market for a jaw-dropping $30 million, having poured millions into renovating the home soon after buying it.

In a past listing, the property was described as “an eco-farmhouse with the perfect modern rustic interior.” However, DeGeneres and de Rossi’s listing agent, Andrew Barnes, noted that the farm was somewhat “tired” when the couple purchased it.

However, that didn’t stop DeGeneres from falling in love with the home—reportedly paying around $3.3 million over the asking price to secure the dwelling, then enlisting a team of 70 workers to rush through renovations so it would be ready for her and de Rossi as soon as possible.

Yet DeGeneres and de Rossi would end up spending just a matter of weeks living in the completed dwelling before moving on to a new ultramodern home that is about 30 minutes away and has a more Malibu-esque aesthetic than the traditional stone dwelling they first purchased.
