Hollywood star Emma Roberts has sold her “grown-up dollhouse” for $4.8 million within two months of putting the sprawling Los Angeles dwelling on the market on May 1.
Roberts, 34, who previously showcased the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom space in an Architectural Digest spread, initially purchased her “storybook” dwelling in 2021 for $3.63 million.
At the time, Roberts had just given birth to her son, Rhodes, now 4, with her ex Garrett Hedlund, and she believed that the Hollywood Hills dwelling was the perfect place for her to create a cozy, safe family home, she explained to the outlet.
However, much has changed in Roberts’ life since then—not least her engagement to actor Cody John, whom she has been dating since 2022 and who popped the question to the “American Horror Story” star in July 2024.
Though the couple have revealed little about their plans for settling down in a new marital home, it’s clear that Roberts wanted a fresh start, opting to put her elegant abode on the market for $4.99 million—only to snag a buyer just seven weeks later.

According to records, the on-screen star sold the home for just shy of her asking price, with the final sale listed at $4.82 million.
For that price, the buyer snagged not only an enviable location, but also a unique decor aesthetic, which the “Scream 6” star helped to bring to life soon after moving into the home.
The actress teamed up with AD100 design firm Pierce & Ward to design her dream sanctuary, creating what she called a “cabinet of curiosities” filled with unique furniture, vibrant artwork, and other distinctive touches, like a lighting fixture designed to look like a disco ball.
“I have a picture of the day we moved in,” she revealed to AD. “I’m holding [Rhodes], and it was the most sunny California day, and we were in front of the blue door of our new house. I just remember feeling like we are exactly where we need to be.”
The result is a dream mixture of “timeless charm” and “elevated California living,” the listing, which was held by Alyson Richards and Carl Gambino of The Gambino Group at Compass, noted.
“This soulful residence is where timeless charm meets elevated California living, with warm, richly layered interiors and lush surroundings that feel worlds away,” the description went on.
“Inside the main house, you’ll first be greeted by the formal living room boasting a vaulted ceiling, whimsically painted fireplace, and a bay window that floods the space with sunlight.”

The listing photos revealed that many of Roberts’ design touches were still in place when the property went on the market, including her artwork, painted furniture, and the shelving.
It was those ample built-ins that first drew her to the home, she revealed to AD.
The first time she saw the dwelling, she admitted that she immediately thought: “I can put all my books there.”
The photos also revealed several empty spaces in the property, including the walk-in closet, suggesting that Roberts has not occupied the home in some time.
That might be the result of another major change in her life of late: her engagement to actor John, with whom she first went public in 2022.
John popped the question to Roberts—who is the niece of Hollywood legend Julia Roberts—in July 2024, news that the actress then announced on her Instagram profile, sharing several pictures of her posing with her new fiancé, while proudly flashing her enormous ring.
Although it’s not known whether her impending marriage is behind her decision to sell her home, it might well be that she and John have opted to find a house that they can design and decorate together, as they prepare to start their new chapter.
When Roberts purchased the home, she was still in an on-again, off-again romance with Hedlund, whom she began dating in 2019, shortly after her split from “American Horror Story” co-star Evan Peters, to whom she was reportedly engaged.

However, parting ways with the home will likely be bittersweet, given that it is where her young son has spent much of his formative years.
Whoever is lucky enough to be taking over ownership of the home will find themselves enjoying what the listing described as a “retreat” that is nestled in one of Los Angeles’ “most coveted neighborhoods.” It comes with a one-bedroom guesthouse.
Though Roberts has filled the interior of the home with many whimsical items, the exterior is pure storybook charm, complete with gardens and a waterfall feature in the pool.
The actress has not yet revealed where she and John are now laying down roots. However, Roberts is no stranger to the Los Angeles real estate market, having bought and sold several properties in the area over the years, including one dwelling that she sold to her “American Horror Story” co-star Sarah Paulson in 2016.
Paulson paid $1.65 million for the property in an off-market deal. However, Roberts later joked that she should have charged her more after it was revealed that the actress had discovered a secret swimming pool buried on the land after buying the home.
Speaking to Architectural Digest about her planned renovations for the home, Paulson revealed that she was exploring the option of installing a pool, only for the man who came to check out the potential to discover that there was already one there.
“I had the guy come up, and it turns out there is a pool already underneath the ground,” Paulson revealed. “I just saw [Roberts] the other day, and I’m like, ‘Did you know you had a pool under there?’ She was like, ‘WHAT! I WOULD HAVE CHARGED YOU SO MUCH MORE MONEY!'”
