Trenton, New Jersey, has earned a spot on the Realtor.com® 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list, showcasing the state capital’s growing appeal in today’s competitive housing market.
Each year, the list highlights ZIPs where homes are selling quickly and drawing above-average buyer interest.
In 2025, Trenton’s 08619 ZIP code made the cut, proving that buyers are looking beyond big metros and finding value in smaller, well-located communities.
Trenton homes are selling fast
Trenton ranked No. 41 nationally, with homes selling in a median of just 28 days between January and June 2025—nearly a month faster than the U.S. median of 53 days. The typical listing price was $406,000, below the June 2025 housing market data median of $441,000, making it a relative bargain compared to other New Jersey markets.
New Jersey was strongly represented in this year’s rankings. Marlton (ZIP 08053) ranked No. 2 nationally with a $495,000 median and 17-day pace, while Wayne (ZIP 07470) landed at No. 5 with a $664,000 median and 22-day pace. Compared with those pricier suburbs, Trenton’s $406,000 median positions it as a more affordable option while still offering speed and accessibility.
The Northeast continues to dominate
Trenton’s performance fits a larger trend across the Northeast, which—alongside the Midwest—continues to dominate the Hottest ZIP Codes list. Seven of the Northeast’s top ZIPs ranked among the top 10 nationally, led by Beverly, MA at No. 1 overall. Buyers are flocking to suburban-style markets where home prices, though elevated, still compare favorably to city centers.
In this context, Trenton’s value proposition stands out. With homes priced well below metro New York and Philadelphia averages, it offers buyers a way to access the amenities of two major metros while keeping housing costs more manageable.
Suburban living with urban access
Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale notes that the hottest ZIP codes this year reflect a common buyer goal: securing suburban amenities and space without losing access to urban jobs. “These locations represent a sweet spot for shoppers who want suburban amenities and proximity to jobs without paying top-tier metro premiums,” Hale explains.
Nationally, the hottest ZIPs sold 30–42 days faster than the U.S. average and drew 3.6× more listing views. Inventory remained tight, with active listings nearly 59% below pre-pandemic levels. That scarcity continues to push buyers into competitive situations in places like Trenton. Trenton’s edge in 2025
What makes Trenton stand out is its blend of affordability, accessibility, and livability. With a median home price below both the national median and neighboring New Jersey suburbs, it provides entry-level access for buyers seeking suburban-style living with a strong commuter connection. Its location, roughly equidistant between Philadelphia and New York, adds another layer of appeal for households who want flexibility.
Alongside Marlton and Wayne, Trenton rounds out New Jersey’s strong presence on the 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list. While Marlton and Wayne highlight higher-end suburban demand, Trenton shows that affordability still matters—especially in markets where jobs, infrastructure, and connectivity are within easy reach. Buyers preparing to relocate can start with a moving checklist, and sellers can find advice on selling a house and how much their house is worth.
