Louisville, Kentucky, has earned its place on the Realtor.com® 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list, showing that this Midwestern-Southern hub remains one of the country’s most competitive housing markets.
Each year, the list highlights communities where homes are selling faster than the U.S. average and attracting unusually high buyer attention online.
In 2025, Louisville’s 40241 ZIP code made the cut, underscoring its affordability, suburban amenities, and strong local demand.
Louisville homes are selling quickly
Louisville ranked No. 40 nationally, with homes selling in a median of 29 days between January and June 2025. That’s more than three weeks faster than the U.S. median of 53 days. The typical listing price was $392,000, keeping it below the June 2025 housing market data median of $441,000. The mix of approachable prices and fast-moving sales makes Louisville stand out as one of the region’s most desirable markets.
Other nearby markets help show the range of options in the Mid-South and Midwest. Jefferson City, MO (ZIP 65109) ranked No. 20 nationally with a $363,000 median and 28 days on market, while Council Bluffs, IA (ZIP 51503) came in at No. 28 with a $302,000 median and 27-day pace. Louisville sits comfortably in between—affordable relative to national norms while fast enough to reflect buyer urgency.
The Midwest and Mid-South remain strong
Louisville’s performance reflects a larger regional trend. Realtor.com’s analysis shows the Midwest continues to dominate the Hottest ZIP Codes list, with Ballwin, MO; Strongsville, OH; and Bexley, OH all ranking in the national top 10. Other Midwestern cities like Rockford, IL, Racine, WI, and Mansfield, OH also placed in the top 50.
While Louisville is often viewed as a border city between the South and Midwest, its housing dynamics look much more like its Midwestern peers: attainable prices, quick-moving inventory, and consistent demand. At under $400K, Louisville delivers far more space and value than pricier coastal markets, while still providing access to jobs, education, and cultural amenities.
Suburban living with urban access
Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale explains that the hottest ZIP codes of 2025 share a winning formula: suburban-style homes and lifestyle with close ties to major economic centers.
“These locations represent a sweet spot for shoppers who want suburban amenities and proximity to jobs without paying top-tier metro premiums,” Hale says.
Nationally, homes in the top ZIPs sold 30–42 days faster than the U.S. average and drew 3.6× more listing views. Inventory in these competitive markets remains scarce, nearly 59% below pre-pandemic levels, which keeps pressure on buyers to act quickly.
In Louisville, that translates to brisk turnover, even at prices slightly below the national median.
Louisville’s edge in 2025
Louisville’s appeal lies in its mix of affordability, accessibility, and lifestyle. The 40241 ZIP benefits from being close to major employers, shopping, and schools, while also offering suburban-scale homes and neighborhoods. For buyers priced out of larger metros or looking for value with urban access, Louisville delivers.
Its place on the 2025 Hottest ZIP Codes list underscores how the city balances Midwestern affordability with metropolitan perks. For buyers, that means homes that don’t linger on the market, competitive pricing, and a community that continues to attract attention on a national scale. Those preparing to move can start with a moving checklist. Sellers planning to list can turn to resources on selling a house and how much their house is worth.
