Green Bay Packers rookie Matthew Golden has revealed that he achieved his lifelong goal of buying his grandmother a home.
The 22-year-old NFL pro revealed to Realtor.com® that he had been dreaming of gifting his grandma a home near the location where he was raised since he was little.
The wide receiver snapped up a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Houston for his grandmother.
The charming dwelling sits a mere 2 miles from where Matthew grew up and is situated on the same street where the football star lived during high school.
Matthew revealed that he had dreamt of buying his grandmother a home ever since he “lost” his childhood home.
“I’m not sure what happened, but I know that we had to leave the property and they put the property up for sale,” he tells Realtor.com.

“I was around 11 or 12 years old when we lost the property and at the time, I told myself that whenever I was in a position to give my grandma a house, I would do that for and God granted me the opportunity to do that for her,” he explains.
He notes that he felt extremely blessed when he realized that he could afford to buy his grandmother a home, adding that it seemed like it was all “a part of the plan.”
“It seemed like everything we went through was all a part of the plan. I feel like it led me to right where i needed to be, and I was able to get into a position to do something special for her,” he says.
Matthew explains that the home was extra special to him because he grew up playing basketball around there.
“I knew it would be a great spot for my grandma and for my cousin, who is going to go to the same high school I went to,” he says.
When searching for a home, the rookie notes that finding a property with a “good backyard” where his grandma could relax was crucial.
Matthew reveals that his grandma “didn’t have a clue in mind” about his plans to buy her a home, making the whole experience that much more special.
“I ended up surprising her and I could just see the look on her face. She was crying and she had a lot of emotions—she definitely deserved it. She hugged me for 10 minutes, she wouldn’t let me go. I expected that.

“After that, I showed her around the house, which has a big island in the kitchen because she loves cooking. I know the house will be great for her,” he says.
Matthew reveals that he had an overwhelming amount of emotion when he presented the house to his grandma.
“I was excited and happy that I could get something done for her; I always want to give back to my grandma because she helped put me in the position I am in now,” he says.
When it comes to his own real estate portfolio, Matthew reveals he wants to get himself “some property” and get a sprawling ranch filled with “horses” and many animals.
“That’s something I look forward to doing for myself,” he adds.
Matthew worked with Nimesh Patel, Broker/Owner of REMAX Fine Properties in Sugar Land, TX, to find the perfect home for his grandmother.
Matthew played college football for the Houston Cougars and Texas Longhorns and was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
